Wreaths Across America
On December 15th, 2018 at noon, the Herndon Woman’s Club will honor our many Veterans who are buried in the Chestnut Grove Cemetery by participating in the National Wreaths Across America Day.
Officially established in 1882, Herndon’s Chestnut Grove Cemetery is the final resting place of veterans, dating back to the Civil War. Fifty seven years later, the Herndon Woman’s Club was established. Since 1939 HWC has united women in our community -- through volunteerism and fundraising -- to support various local, state, national and international causes.
The Wreaths Across America organization is dedicated to spreading the message about the importance of remembering our fallen heroes, honoring those who serve, and teaching our children about the sacrifices made by veterans and their families to preserve our freedoms. This year the Herndon Woman’s Club will again join Wreaths Across America to honor the eight hundred and seven veterans who are laid to rest at Chestnut Grove Cemetery. After a brief ceremony, we will remember the fallen, the prisoners of war, the missing in action and honor those who have served and are serving this great nation. Those in attendance will be asked to place a commemorative wreath and thank a veteran by name.
