THE TOWN OF HERNDON REQUESTED NO PUBLIC CEREMONY THIS YEAR DUE TO COVID-19
863 VETERANS HONORED DECEMBER 19, 2020 AT
CHESTNUT GROVE CEMETERY WREATHS ACROSS AMERICA |
THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO MADE DONATIONS
TO SUPPORT WREATHS ACROSS AMERICA The Herndon Woman's Club prepared for Wreaths Across America at Chestnut Grove Cemetery for many months. Logistics and restrictions became necessary as the rise of covid cases increased as we neared December 19. Along with Arlington National Cemetery and 2,500 other locations, changes were necessary to include no large gatherings as a way to insure the safety of everyone. The Town of Herndon requested we keep the number of our club members at a minimum to place the 863 wreaths at the Cemetery. A brief and quiet ceremony was held and ceremonial wreaths were presented for each branch of service. Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, Merchant Marines, POW/MIA Those in attendance wore masks as they located the veteran graves and placed the stakes. On a snowy December 19, 863 wreaths were placed. The members were pleased to THANK each veteran by name and thank them for their service. REMEMBER HONOR TEACH |

Each and every veteran deserves our gratitude and a special place in our hearts. Due to current covid restrictions, the Town of Herndon requested no large crowds or public ceremony this year. To help everyone understand how veterans buried at Chestnut Grove served our country for over the past 200 years, we are sharing the information below. We hope you enjoy learning more about these veterans who have been a part of our community and served our nation. |
