DAY OF CEREMONY
 
VOLUNTEERS:  This is Herndon Woman’s Club 11th year preparing for the wreath laying ceremony at Chestnut Grove Cemetery.  Our members have been busy fundraising and preparing for several months to meet our goal.  HWC members will place a stake prior to the ceremony to identify each veteran grave.  As a volunteer, you will be placing a wreath on a stake after the ceremony to THANK a VETERAN.  

PARKING:  Parking is very limited in the cemetery. Parking is available at Herndon High School across the street.  Members of CERT will be assisting with traffic within the cemetery to avoid damage to cemetery grounds.  Please follow their directions.  Any change in parking will be updated.
 
WREATHS for  976+ veterans. The wreaths are counted and located in specific locations within the cemetery.  Wreaths are distributed ONE at a time to ensure all attendees place a wreath.  Stay in the section near the box to place a wreath.  If you have children, be sure to explain how to honor the veteran.  As you thank and place a wreath, “say the veteran’s name” to ensure that the legacy of duty, service and sacrifice of the veteran is never forgotten.  The red bow should be at the top of the wreath.
 
VETERAN SUPPORT:  Check the internet for organizations that work to help veterans.  TEACH children about veterans.  Remember to THANK a veteran for their service.
 
GROUPS:  Any groups tracking volunteer hours are responsible for documenting their time.  Groups with children (scouts) have the opportunity to Teach them about veterans.
