(AART) Several members have been busy, stitching, cutting and planning for a special project. Puppets will be completed at the Day of Service on January 15, 2024 at Holy Cross Luther Church in Herndon. Nothing Bundt Cakes was guest speaker thanks to the Education CSP. France spoke about her two stores in Herndon and Sterling. She delighted members with tasty "Bundtinis" in various flavors during the meeting. Many THANKS to everyone who helped
make the 65th Annual Fashion Show held at the Crowne Plaza Dulles in Herndon a success. The Fashions provided by Chico's of Fairfax Corner and modeled by eight club members were delightful. Attendees enjoyed the various door prizes during the afternoon. The 14 baskets of raffled items raised money for this year's charity She Believes In Me (SBIM) October 2023

Great use for acorns that are falling to the ground! Members collected acorns. Acorns were washed and sorted. Acorns that had not "sprouted" were donated to AERO to feed sick, wild animals in rehab. Acorns were donated to VA Department of Forestry for their statewide oak and walnut tree planting. Environment CSP gathered about
50 lbsof old, unwanted jeans, jean jackets, and other denim items for recycling! Denim in any condition can be recycled, as long as it is at least 90 percent cotton, with all paper and plastic removed. For more information, check the Zappos for Good's program that ships them to Blue Jeans Go Green. www.bluejeansgogreen.org The GFWC Northern District Meeting was held October 7 in Springfield, VA. Herndon Woman's Club was one of two clubs that served as hostesses for the meeting. HWC Members have enjoyed sharing
information at the Herndon Farmers Market each week about Wreaths Across America at Chestnut Grove Cemetery. The ceremony will be held on December 16, 2023 at 12:00 noon to Thank and Honor the 950 veterans laid to rest in Herndon. August 2023

This summer a Zen Heart and bench brought a little Zen to Center Street in Herndon. The artist was Jinna Lee. HWC member Lori Rayburn and husband Mike provided the bench The Wreaths Across America Committee made donations to three veteran organization in the local area. Fisher House Foundation (Earmarked for use at Ft. Belvoir Community Hospital) Family housing/transport during veteran treatment; Operation Hero Miles program (donated frequent flyer miles for families to be near injured service member, and more. For information go to www.fisherhouse.org Willing Warriors Retreat Bull Run (Based in Haymarket, VA. Operates retreat facility at Bull Run.) Provides a break for service members recovering at military hospital in DC area where they can get away from hospital environment in a comfortable home-like setting. For information go to www.willingwarriors.org Veterans Moving Forward (Sterling/Dulles Area) Provides service dogs and canine therapy services o veterans with physical and/or mental health challenges at no cost to the veteran. Dulles Airport Stars & Stripes Arrival June 17, 2023 Four bus loads of veterans arrived and were welcomed at Dulles airport by various ages of two legged and four legged greeters before they headed to DC to visit the nation's capitol. Installation New Officers for 2023-24
Before taking time out for monthly club meetings in July and August, members enjoyed gathering together for a few hours before the installation of the club officers and thanking the previous officers for their dedication the past two years. CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL Club members will spend time during the summer to prepare for fall fundraisers and other projects. A few members from HWC gave a helping
hand to NextStop Theatre to sort through and match their costume shoe collection, stored at the ArtsHerndon building. Members were pleased to receive a
Thank You from Herndon Harbor House Adult Day Health Care Center for the donated herbs and annuals for the outside gardening and the container gardening last month. "Thank you for such a successful garden donation and volunteer service. Our garden is alive and buzzing with birds, butterflies and older adults that love the outdoors. Highlights were included in our monthly newsletter." May 2023 A few members from Environment CSP
spent time at the Herndon Senior Center Monarch Butterfly garden planting a variety of pollinator flowers and weeding the garden. Thanks to Sue, the center's volunteer gardener for helping this ongoing project for the seniors. The garden looks great. A few members of the Environment CSP
volunteered several hours weeding the ArtSpace front beds before planting lovely zinnias, marigolds and phlox flowers which they donated. Health & Wellness CSP
club members assist "She Believes in Me" (SBIM) at the monthly meetings at Hutchinson Elementary School. Members donated jewelry, chocolates and other items for the girls to select and present to their mothers on Mother's Day. Guest Speakers at May Meeting
Saanvi Vootla was the student selected by HWC to attend the 2022 HOBY Leadership Seminar. Members enjoyed hearing about her experiences at the seminar. Areen Hashemi is looking forward to attending the next HOBY Leadership Seminar in June 2023. She will return next year to share her experiences. HOBY was founded in 1958 by actor Hugh O'Brian, to inspire students to dedicate their lives to leadership, service and innovation. Environment CSP planted flowers
in the Harbor House courtyard garden. A special stone was made by one of our talented club members to add to the garden area. Education CSP thanks club members and
the community for the generous donations of 661 children's books collected for "Books Are Food For Your Brain" April 2023 Town of Herndon 37th Annual
Mayor's Volunteer Reception More than 200 volunteers from 23 different service organization and groups who volunteered 100 or more hours in service to the Town of Herndon in 2022 were honored at the reception. There were 28 members from the Herndon Woman's Club to receive recognition. During the ceremony, a special recognition was made to Janet Hulme for more than 50 years of service with the Herndon Woman's Club, the Closet and LINK. Stars & Stripes from Wisconsin Four planes arrived with WWII, Korea and Viet Nam vets. Over 200 people greeted the vets before they board busses for their visit to Washington, DC. Liz Dennison was a guest speaker along
with her feathered friend Pip. The Environment CSP had recently made several Kestral cages to place around Herndon. Liz spoke about Birds of Prey and how two year old Pip came under her care. A few club members enjoyed an outing to

Northern District Meeting
Fredricksburg, VA Congratulations to several members of Herndon Woman's Club for submitting their art work. The following were selected for First Place in different categories. Education & Libraries CSP
delivered 36 new Teddy Bears to the Herndon Police Department. The officers use bears in several ways, including stocking them in the interview room designed just for children. One officer had just given a bear to a distressed mother and child who came into the station. HWC members and spouses volunteered
for the Herndon Elementary School Book Fairs March 13-17. Members enjoyed spending time with students and PTA. HWC donated books for students who could not afford to shop. This year many of our members enjoyed
the International Dinner at Russia House in downtown Herndon. Members enjoy a chance to socialize and enjoy a delicious meal as well as learn a bit about different cultures. February 2023 Environment CSP
A few members met to build Kestral and Squirrel boxes. The Kestral boxes will be placed at Frying Pan Park and possibly Lake Fairfax. The Squirrel boxes are being donated to AERO to use for baby squirrels before they are returned to the location where they were originally found. Education & Libraries CSP & the ESO reading club were invited to the River-Sea Chocolate Factory in Chantilly. The trip, tasting and tour was delightful and fun. The business works with farms and shipping companies to keep their chocolate environmentally friendly, as well as delicious. Ladies bought extra chocolate to bring home! |

A total of 48 pounds of used crayons were collected and sorted by color. The recycled crayons will be melted down into new shapes by The Crayon Initiative for use by hospitalized children. |

A total of 200 pounds of rice and 200 pounds of beans were bagged, along with 50 bags of laundry pods ready to donate to LINK. |
Holy Cross Lutheran Church project was to assemble Personal Care Kits and Baby Care Kits for Lutheran World Relief to be sent to Ukraine and Ethiopia. They had collected items for the kits and due to the generosity of many, they were thrilled to assemble a total of 83 kits. [Check their Facebook page for many photos]
