community service programs
In September 2020 GFWC launched five new Community Service Programs to build upon the difference that the Federation has made throughout the United States - and across the globe. The Community Service Programs and Special Programs have been re-structured to help clubs light a path for the future and better address the current and upcoming needs of its communities.
ARTS & CULTURE COMMUNITY SERVICE PROGRAM encourages members to promote & support art & culture in clubs & communities, & to expand understanding on every level, from local & regional to national & international. Our goal is to create projects that create crafts, dance, drama, food, music and other manifestations of art & culture that develop skills, awareness, & appreciation. It is designed to inspire club women & ignite within them a desire to make the world a more beautiful, thoughtful and caring place. Chair: Marylou Bergeron Lori Rayburn CIVIC ENGAGEMENT & OUTREACH COMMUNITY SERVICE PROGRAM reminds GFWC members that each of us is part of a larger society, responsible for undertaking actions that create a better quality of life & foster a sense of community - locally, regionally, nationally & globally. The program highlights & encourages citizenship, crime detection, safety & disaster preparedness; the needy, hungry, & homeless, & our military personnel & veterans. Chair: EDUCATION & LIBRARIES COMMUNITY SERVICE PROGRAM aims to help others while continuing to learn. Projects in this program are designed to foster schools, as well as other educational institutions & opportunities. The programs promote libraries, literacy, & the love of a good book. Through these efforts, we encourage the growth of individuals & communities at home & around the world. Chair: Anne Crotty Gerri Ludwig ENVIRONMENT COMMUNITY SERVICE PROGRAM encourages us to become stewards of the earth by working to preserve the world'sresources, protect wildlife & domesticated animals, live sustainably & beautify our communities & enjoy nature. Environmental degradation is cumulative & many scientists warn that we are at a tipping point. There is no time like the present to act. Chair: Margaret Jurgielewicz Cathy Lanni HEALTH & WELLNESS COMMUNITY SERVICE PROGRAM. The human mind, body & spirit comprise our health & wellness. To improve our well-being, we must address three key components: nutrition, disease prevention & physical & emotional care. This program aims to explore the various opportunities for awareness & advancement of each of these vital areas. Chair: Mary Goebel Gabriele O'Bryan |
