Veteran's Day Week Members spent time at Clearview Elementary School as a way to TEACH by reading stories and helping students write letters to honor. Teaching is another way to honor veterans through Wreaths Across America. A ceremony will be held at Chestnut Grove Cemetery on December 17, 2022 at noon to honor the 920 veterans by placing a wreath and thanking each veteran. To make a donation, click below |

The Education CSP donated classroom books to new teachers at Herndon Elementary and Clearview Elementary. The books were provided by "Books Are Food For You Brain" at our request to the charity. HWC members were asked to donate Beanie Babies to send to Appalachia as Christmas gifts for children via the Medical Missionaries. A new member purchased an infant French Doudou Et Compagnie, as her 12 year old grand-daughter still treasures it. This is a perfect example of Love and Sharing that lies behind HWC activities and programs. |

Re-Installation of HWC Club Officers
Several of our monthly meetings have been held via Zoom only and with an option to attend in person while remaining safe. Our June meeting was held in an informal setting at a members' home to re-install the club officers for the upcoming year. Those in attendance enjoyed the chance to relax and chat. Once the officers were installed, recognition was made to members who had reached 5, 10, 15, 20 PLUS (!) years of service with the club. There will be no monthly meetings in July or August. Members will be working on various committees making plans for the upcoming Fashion Show in November; the sale of White House Ornaments in late fall; preparing for Wreaths Across America at Chestnut Grove Cemetery in December; and volunteering for the Herndon Open House Tour in December. |

Environment CSP Several club members enjoy the chance to work in gardens. They have spent time cleaning and planting flowers in the Herndon Senior Center Garden the past couple years. This year, members built a "Tin Man" to look over the garden. The plants are beginning to show off this spring thanks to the special care. |

Education CSP Food For Your Brain Started in 2018 by a group of retired Fairfax County educators who had worked in Title One schools. The group wanted to be sure children in economically disadvantaged homes had books of their own to choose and keep. The partnership with "Food For Others" charity has helped in distributing free books throughout the county. As of January 2022, 70,000 free new and gently used books were given away. HWC members, families and neighbors donated 739 children's books to our Education and Libraries CSP Book Drive for the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service this year. The books were picked up and loaded into two cars on January 25. Thanks to all who gave books. |
