Medical Missionaries of Manassas Newsletter Dec. 2020

Members from the Herndon Women’s Club facilitated a food
collection with the help of family and the Red Hat Society
("The Red Foxes") and “Link” supporting the effort.
The group spent hours collecting, sorting, packing and
labeling the donations collected from areas of Reston,
       Herndon and Sterling

In December 2020, 55 scarfs were hand made by members
of the Herndon Fortnightly and Herndon Woman's Club
for the Foster Care 2 Share Red Scarf Project.

Due to covid-19, planning for fundraisers and other activities
are handled mostly on line.  Members have found time to meet in downtown Herndon - wearing masks -
to take a short walk.

Each month during 2020, members have presented 125 birthday bags to residents at Harbor House.

                USO Bags

Members made small bags to be used during layovers at Dulles for military families who spend time between flights  in the USO Lounge.  Bags were assembled to hand out to young children to occupy some of their time.

Public Issues - Day of Service - January 20, 2020
Club Members spent a few hours making  Paracord Bracelets for Operation Gratitude.

How can a Paracord Survival Bracelet be Used?
All who serve use paracord, which gets its name from parachute cord and can hold up to 550 lbs. of weight.  The bracelet provides 7.5 feet of cord in an emergency.  Bracelets can be used to:
Secure camouflage nets to trees or vehicles
    Build a makeshift shelter
Extend a security strap or rope to reach and haul heavy objects
Create a harness to extract an injured person from a bad location
    Make a sling or splint
