Wreaths Across America
Since 2014, the Herndon Woman’s Club members have hosted the Wreaths Across America Ceremony at Chestnut Grove Cemetery each December at 12:00 noon. Currently more than 4,900 participating locations in all 50 states, at sea and abroad gather to Remember, Honor and Teach and THANK our veterans for their service. Ceremony begins at 12:00 Noon. (Length about 15-20 minutes) Memorial Wreaths will be placed for each branch of service during ceremony. Army, Marine, Navy, Air Force, Space Force, Coat Guard, Merchant Marine, POW/MIA. (Please leave path open for presenters to place wreaths) As a VOLUNTEER you have the opportunity to THANK A VETERAN for their service. A stake has been placed by each veterans’ grave. Wreaths have been counted and boxes located in several areas of the cemetery. Members will hand out ONE wreath at a time. Please stay in the same area to place a wreath. As you place a wreath on a stake, say the veterans name and THANK them for their service. The wreaths are for veterans’ graves and are not to be placed at a non-veteran grave or taken outside of the cemetery. The wreath should be placed on the stake with both prongs of the stake securely speared into the top of the wreath. The RED BOW should be placed at the TOP of the wreath. |
VOLUNTEERS FYI
Registration for placing a wreath is for the purpose of giving us an estimate of attendees. Groups participating are responsible for tracking their volunteer hours and documenting their time. Herndon Parkway EXIT only for vehicles leaving] Main Parking: Location United Methodist Church Carpooling recommended Limited Parking: Cemetery lanes narrow. One way. NO parking/driving on grass within the cemetery. CERT (County Community Emergency Response Team will direct cars to specified areas of the cemetery. NO Public Restrooms available Other Ways to Help
