DECEMBER 2020
THE TOWN OF HERNDON REQUESTED NO PUBLIC CEREMONY DUE TO COVID-19

Information and photos shared as veterans buried at Chestnut Grove Cemetery were remembered and honored

863 VETERANS HONORED DECEMBER 19, 2020 AT
CHESTNUT GROVE CEMETERY WREATHS ACROSS AMERICA
THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO MADE DONATIONS
TO SUPPORT WREATHS ACROSS AMERICA

The Herndon Woman's Club prepared for Wreaths Across America
at Chestnut Grove Cemetery for many months.  Logistics
and restrictions became necessary as the rise of covid cases
increased as we neared December 19.  Along with Arlington
National Cemetery and 2,500 other locations, changes were
necessary to include no large gatherings as a way to
insure the safety of everyone.

The Town of Herndon requested we keep the number of our club
members at a minimum to place  the 863 wreaths at the Cemetery.
A brief and quiet ceremony was held and ceremonial wreaths
were presented for each branch of service.
Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard,
Merchant Marines, POW/MIA

Those in attendance wore masks as they
located the veteran graves and placed the stakes.  On a
snowy December 19, 863 wreaths were placed.  The members
were pleased to THANK each veteran by name and
thank them for their service.

American Legion Kidwell Post Veterans Day Ceremony November 11, 2019 - 11:00 am
Wreaths Across America, Chestnut Grove Cemetery, December 14, 2019

Thanks to everyone who joined the Town of Herndon and Herndon Woman's Club on Saturday, December 14th, 2019, for the Wreaths Across America National Day of Remembrance Ceremony at Chestnut Grove Cemetery to honor and remember the 848 veterans buried there.  Despite the rain falling from the skies, we hope everyone had the opportunity to place a wreath and thank a veteran by name for their service.

Thanks to those who made a donation for wreaths both small and large to ensure a wreath would be available for each veteran at Chestnut Grove Cemetery.  We were proud to see the uniformed memorial wreath presenters representing each branch of service at the ceremony.  Army, Marine Corp, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, Merchant Marine and POW/MIA.

Many thanks to the South Lake HS ROTC, bugler, Reston Chorale Bobby Pins, CERT members who directed traffic/parking within the cemetery, future members of the Air Force and Marines for their assistance, the excellent PA system, cemetery staff, the Herndon Fortnightly Club and Adams Green Funeral Home, for providing the refreshments and to each of you who placed a wreath and thanked a veteran.  Thanks also to those members who volunteered their time throughout the year.
