This year April 23-29, 2017, the National Volunteer Week celebration was observed in the United States to promote and show appreciation for volunteerism. The Town of Herndon held their 33 rd Annual Mayor’s Volunteer Appreciation Night on April 23 to recognize 430 individuals from various organizations in the Town of Herndon who volunteered 100 plus hours of community service during 2016.
The Herndon Woman’s Club was pleased to have 33 members join this group of volunteers. As each HWC member looks back at the time spent raising money and supporting various local, state, national and international causes, as well as sharing their passion for community service, they should be proud. Every member brings her ideas and energy to the club in order to achieve their ultimate goals.
All club members are encouraged to submit a monthly form of volunteer hours for department and committee activities throughout the year. Members are also asked to include volunteer hours for other organizations separately. The membership grew from 56 to 65 members by the end of 2016. Adding together the 100 plus volunteer hours of the 33 members brought the total number to 7,500 hours. The total for the entire membership for 2016 was 8,600 hours in 2016.
